Solution

Although there are many new features and updates in Windows 8, it also has some disadvantages, comparing with the previous Windows Vista or Windows 7. For example, Windows 8 is not compatible with all models of the Pentium 4 processor. That is why when people are attempting to install Windows 8 onto a Pentium 4 computer, the error code 0x0000005D pops up.

The new Windows 8 needs a processor which is compatible with below 3 functions: SSE2, PAE and NX bit. While, all Pentium 4 are just compatible with two of them SSE2 and PAE. The NX bit may be the problem.

Follow the steps below to fix the error code 0x0000005D in Windows 8:

  • Check and make sure that your Pentium 4 model supports the NX bit at first. Mostly, it does not work in sockets 423 or 478 processors.
  • For sockets 775 processors, it is compatible. You can install Windows 8 32bit or 64bit onto the computer that supports NX bit. The CPU models can decide which version of Windows 8 you can install.
  • Check and make sure that the NX bit is not disabled in the BIOS.

OK, let’s see in the next Windows 8 troubleshooting.
